The agent reports "An invalid dn syntax has been specified"


Symptoms

When attempting to create or modify an Active Directory object, you receive the error:

"An invalid dn syntax has been specified"



Cause

This error can occur if the distinguished name is invalid. This can occur if the distinguished name includes invalid charters.



Resolution

Encode the special characters in the distinguished name for example the display name


[Surname], [Firstname] should be encoded as

[Surname]\, [Firstname]
