DHCP Server Configuration
A Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server provides the dynamic distribution of IP addressing and configuration information to clients. Normally the DHCP server provides the client with at least this basic information of IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.
Audit the following general DHCP server information:
- Audit Enabled
- Audit Log Directory
- IPv4 Bindings
- IPv6 Bindings
- Conflict Detection Attempts
- Database Directory
- Backup Directory
- DDNS Credentials
- NAP Unavailable Action
- Superscopes
- Server Options
- User and Vendor Classes
- NAP Quarantine Enabled (Windows 2008 and above)

IPv4 Scopes
The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol version 4 (DHCPv4) allows for the automatic configuration of client systems on an Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) network. Windows Server 2008 and above also has the ability to provide IPv6 addresses through DHCP.
Document the following IPv4 scopes information:
- Name and Description
- Exclusions
- Lease Duration
- BOOTP Lease Duration
- Start Address
- End Address
- Subnet Mask
- State
- DDNS Settings
- Scope Options

Reservations
Reservations provide a permanent address lease assignment by the DHCP server. Reservations ensure that a specified hardware device on the subnet can always use the same IP address.
XIA Configuration provides the following information about reservations:
- Name
- IP Address
- MAC address
- DDNS Settings
- Reservation Options (effective options)

IPv6 Scopes
The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol version 6 (DHCPv6) provides IPv6 hosts with IP addresses, IP prefixes and/or other configuration required to operate on an IPv6 network. Windows Server 2008 and above provides DHCPv6 support.
Document the following IPv6 scopes information:
- Name and Description
- Address
- State
- Preference
- DDNS Settings
- Exclusions
- Reservations
- Scope Options

Track Changes
XIA Configuration tracks changes made to DHCP servers and can compare configuration changes between servers or against previous versions. This functionality can be used to expose discrepancies or check server configuration against a "golden build".
In the screenshot below a DHCP server has been reconfigured at the server option level:
- The 003 Router option has been added
- The 006 DNS Servers option has been changed with a new DNS server IP address
