VMware vCenter Server provides a centralized platform for managing VMware vSphere environments.

VMware Clusters

A cluster is a group of two or more ESX hosts that provide high availability (using VMware HA) and load balancing (using DRS).

Inventory the following VMware cluster information:

VMware Datastores

A datastore is a manageable storage entity used to store virtual machine configuration and disk files or images.

Document the following information about datastores:

General Settings

  • Name, Type and URL
  • Accessible
  • Capacity, Free Space and Percentage Free
  • Maximum File Size and Virtual Disk Size

Permissions

  • Principal Name
  • Role Name
  • Defined Location (e.g. datacenters)
  • Propagate

VMFS Settings

  • Block Size

  • Filesystem Version
  • Solid State Drive
  • UUID
  • VMFS Upgradable

A datastore cluster is a collection of datastores with shared resources and a shared management interface.

Run reports on the following datastore cluster information:

VMware Inventory

Automatically detect and scan vCenter installations on Windows machines which, in turn, are automatically detected when scanning Active Directory.

Virtual machines connected to the domain will also be detected, scanned and added to the inventory.
